Next year the digital switchover is scheduled in Ireland. What this means is that anyone currently picking up the traditional analogue TV signal will no longer be able to receive any channels.
Unforuntatley those cute bunny ears on top of your TV will stop working all together, and without a set top box of some kind, you will no longer be able to watch RTÉ, TV3 and the other Irish free to air channels.
The reason this is happening is because, like the rest of Europe, television stations in Ireland are switching from analogue to digital. For good reason though. Digital TV means better picture, better sound, on-screen programme guides and interactive services. Digital TV is the future, and Sky have been championing digital services for many years. Sky have always been ahead of the curve when it comes to launching brilliant new services and technology to it’s customers. Sky Plus is a must have feature that has been copied but never equaled by other TV companies, and it’s the only TV provider in Ireland that currently offers the ability to record programs from your mobile phone.
Sky are going one step further today with the launch of Sky Go, the online and mobile TV service.

Sky Go gives all Sky TV customers the opportunity to watch Sky channels and TV programmes on PCs, laptops, mobiles and tablets at no extra charge.
We don’t always have the opportunity to sit down infront of the TV, many of us like curling up in bed with our iPads or laptops to catch up on the News or our favourite shows, what better way to do that now than with Sky.
You’ll also be able to watch your Sky TV when you’re on the go – simply connect to a WiFi network, no need for complicated devices like the Slingbox, simply login to the Sky Go website and you will be able to watch TV channels live on your computer, just like you would on your Sky box. (read more…)

The Four New Channels on Sky Digital
We’re big fans of BBC Three, which provides innovative content focusing on new talent and new technologies and is a big favourite with the 16-34 year old age group and cult favourites such as Being Human started here.

When you’re in the mood for something a bit more serious BBC Four is there with it’s wide variety of programmes including drama, documentaries, music, international film, comedy and current affairs and aims to offer an alternative to mainstream programming.
Great for kids of all ages and some adults too, CBeebies and CBBC are packed full of kids TV programs, with CBeebies aimed at the 0-6 year age group and CBBC aimed at 6 to 16 year olds. All of the BBC children’s programming is certain to keep kids of all ages entertained, as well as aiming to help them learn too.
